Partnership to Boost India’s Semiconductor Production
L&T Semiconductor Technologies Limited (LTSCT) and Tata Electronics have joined forces to strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor market. By combining their expertise, the two companies aim to increase domestic production of cutting-edge semiconductor products for international clients. This strategic alliance brings together LTSCT’s design and engineering capabilities with Tata Electronics’ manufacturing and packaging expertise, targeting the development of next-generation products for various sectors, including automotive, industrial, communications, security, and intelligent-edge.
The collaboration will involve exploring opportunities for chip fabrication and packaging using Tata Electronics’ advanced process technologies and packaging solutions. Additionally, the companies will focus on optimizing chip designs to facilitate efficient large-scale manufacturing. According to Sandeep Kumar, CEO of LTSCT, “Semiconductor leadership will increasingly be defined not just by design breakthroughs but by the ability to industrialise those designs through advanced packaging and manufacturing.” This partnership is expected to play a key role in India’s semiconductor development efforts.
As part of India’s broader semiconductor development initiatives, the companies will work together to advance packaging technologies and quality systems.
Dr Randhir Thakur, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Electronics, described the partnership as a significant step towards combining LTSCT’s design and engineering expertise with Tata’s manufacturing and testing capabilities. LTSCT, a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, specializes in fabless semiconductor products for global clients, with a portfolio that includes Power, Compute, Analog Mixed Signal, IoT modules, and RF products, catering to sectors such as automotive, industrial, energy, data centers, and telecommunications.
Tata Electronics, established in 2020 as a Tata Group venture, operates in electronics manufacturing services, semiconductor assembly and testing, semiconductor foundry, and design services. The partnership aligns with the government’s “Manufacture in India – for India and for the World” vision and the objectives of Semicon 2.0, focusing on the development of a domestic semiconductor ecosystem and increased value addition within India.
